Over 3,000 people have died from the COVID-19 coronavirus. Aside from global stock markets plummeting, many businesses and organizations around the world are temporarily closing or canceling events. Nike recently announced that its headquarters in Europe and the United States are now closed for “deep cleaning.” In Paris, the Louvre Museum has shut its doors to tourists. And in Japan, Tokyo Fashion Week has been cancelled. Other events calling it quits are listed below.
In China, major retailers have closed shops. These include: Lululemon, Crocs Inc., Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Columbia Sportswear, Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Coach, Skechers, Capri Holdings Inc. (Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo), Apple, Adidas, and Nike.
In May, top organizing officials will decided whether to cancel the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. To date, an estimated 20,000 people have signed a petition asking for the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) to be cancelled.
