Hackers took over McDonald’s official Instagram account this week, advertising a Solana meme coin to followers. As a result of their promotion, the hackers were able to make approximately $700K. The token was themed after Grimace, a purple ‘evil’ character first introduced by McDonald’s in 1971. It’s being reported that the hackers describe themselves as “India X Kr3w.”

McDonald’s Instagram account and the personal Twitter/X account of Senior Marketing Director, Guillaume Huin were hacked. After over an hour, McDonald’s was able to gain control of their social media accounts and erase all content related to the meme coin.
