GGD Profiles is where we highlight startups transforming the world.

Fertility testing used to be an expensive, time-consuming process; regulated to private labs and boxed in by specialist recommendations. In 2017, founders Afton Vechery and Carly Leahy developed a simple, at-home fertility testing kit; allowing women to check for up to 7 hormones through a simple prick. Modern Fertility products have since expanded to include ovulation reserve testing, prenatal multivitamins, pregnancy testing, and more. The goal is to give women a more proactive method to personally monitor their fertility data. The information (easily available through the company’s app and dashboard) can also help women advocate for health concerns when interacting with doctors. Instead of a “wait-and-see” approach to family planning or an assumed fertility status dependent on generic indicators like menstruation cycles or family history, Modern Fertility products equip women (no matter their age) with real data that can help them prepare better for more expensive options like IVF or egg freezing. In 2021, Ro (a health care startup) acquired Modern Fertility for over $225 million.
